Submit an Appeal for Contract Violation (Dasher Tips & Guide)

Contract Violation Dasher Doordash

If you have been dashing for a while, sooner or later you will open the app and see a notification that makes your stomach drop. A contract violation.

I have been delivering for DoorDash for more than five years, and I can tell you honestly that almost every long term dasher runs into this at least once.

When it happens, the first reaction is usually panic. You start asking yourself what you did wrong. Did I mess up? Am I about to get deactivated? Take a breath. A contract violation does not automatically mean you are in trouble, and it definitely does not mean you are guilty.

Why Contract Violations Happen

The most common reasons for contract violations are extreme lateness and customers reporting that they did not receive their order.

Let’s talk about the “order not received” issue first. You know you delivered the food. You remember dropping it off. You may have even followed the instructions perfectly. So why would the customer report it missing?

Unfortunately, some customers lie. Others may have had their food taken by someone else. Sometimes they enter the wrong address. DoorDash usually sides with data and reports first, which is why the violation shows up before they hear your side.

For late deliveries, this one hits a lot of dashers unfairly. Traffic accidents, long restaurant waits, closed roads, weather, and slow staff are all things we deal with every day. These are external factors that are completely out of our control. The system still tracks the delivery time, and if it goes far past the estimate, it can trigger a violation.

What You Should Do Right Away

If you truly believe the contract violation is unfair, you should always submit a dispute. Do not just ignore it and hope it goes away.

Inside the DoorDash app, go to the Ratings tab.

  1. From there, select Contract Violations. You will see the delivery that caused the issue. Click on it, then choose Provide Additional Details. This is where you explain what actually happened during the delivery.

Be calm and factual. Mention things like long wait times, traffic issues, GPS problems, or that you followed the drop off instructions exactly. If you took a photo at delivery, say that. You are not arguing. You are giving context.

Once you submit the dispute, all you can do is wait. A team at DoorDash will review your appeal. This part requires patience.

What Happens After the Review

If the appeal is accepted, you will see the contract violation disappear from your account. That is the best outcome, and it does happen.

If the appeal is rejected, it is frustrating, but it is not the end of the world. You do not need to stress yourself out. DoorDash removes contract violations automatically after you complete another 100 deliveries. No action needed. Just keep dashing and doing your job properly.

Final Advice From a Long Time Dasher

Contract violations feel personal, but they are mostly system driven. Support does not have much power over them, and yelling at them will not change the outcome. Focus on documenting your deliveries, communicating delays in the app, and staying consistent.

Most important of all, do not let one violation shake your confidence. If you have been dashing for years, one report does not define you. Keep going, complete your deliveries, and it will fall off just like many others before it.

FAQ: DoorDash Contract Violations

1. Does getting a contract violation mean I will be deactivated?
No. A single contract violation does not mean automatic deactivation. Many long-time dashers, including myself, have had one at some point and continued dashing without any issues. DoorDash usually looks at patterns, not one isolated incident.

2. What should I do as soon as I see a contract violation in the app?
First, don’t panic. Check the details of the violation, then submit a dispute if you believe it’s unfair. Go to the Ratings tab, open Contract Violations, select the delivery, and choose “Provide Additional Details” to explain what happened.

3. Why do customers report orders as not received when I delivered them?
This can happen for many reasons. Some customers make false reports, others may have entered the wrong address, and sometimes food gets taken after drop-off. Unfortunately, the system acts on the report first, even if you did everything right.

4. What if my dispute gets rejected?
If your appeal is rejected, the contract violation will not stay forever. Once you complete another 100 deliveries, it automatically falls off your account. You don’t need to contact support or do anything special.

5. Can Dasher support remove a contract violation for me?
No. Support does not have direct control over contract violations. They cannot remove them manually. The only options are submitting a dispute and waiting for review, or completing 100 more deliveries for it to drop off.
