On Time Rate Keeps Dropping From Restaurant Delays With No Way to Dispute

On Time Rate not eligible to dispute

As a dasher who has been doing this for more than five years, I want to talk about one of the most frustrating things many of us are dealing with right now. On Time Rate dropping because of restaurant delays and then not even being able to dispute it properly.

If you are new to DoorDash, this is something you need to understand early so it does not catch you off guard.

How It Works

Here is the painful reality. On Time Rate does not always reflect how hard you are working or how responsible you are as a driver. Many times, it keeps marking deliveries as late even when the delay is clearly not your fault. Long waits at the restaurant, heavy traffic, road closures, or even app glitches that stop you from completing the order on time all count against you.

What makes this more frustrating is how On Time Rate is calculated. It is based on your last 100 deliveries, and the delivery target time is based on the moment you accept the order. That target delivery time is locked in right away. Even if the restaurant is running behind or the app crashes while you are trying to complete the delivery, the system does not adjust the time.

So if you accept an order and end up waiting 20 or 30 minutes at the restaurant, you are already behind before you even leave. When that order gets marked late, your On Time Rate goes down. If this happens repeatedly, your dasher tier level can drop. I personally know dashers who lost their Platinum status because of this, which means losing Dash Now access and taking a hit to their income.

Ineligible to Dispute

Like many dashers, I called Dasher support to ask about this. The advice is always the same. They tell you to submit a dispute in the app. You go to the Ratings tab, tap On Time Rate, select the deliveries marked as late, and send a short explanation about what happened.

That sounds good in theory, but here is the truth that many dashers experience. The system only allows a limited number of disputes. Even if your disputes are valid and the delays were clearly out of your control, you eventually hit a wall. The app starts showing an error saying the dispute is not eligible and that you need to complete more deliveries.

Support will not openly say there is a dispute limit, but from real experience, there clearly is. And once you hit that limit, there is nothing else you can do. Support agents cannot adjust your On Time Rate. Even supervisors cannot override it.

That is what makes this rating feel unfair. Uncontrollable situations happen almost every day in this job. Restaurants run late. Traffic builds up. The app freezes. Yet we are the ones who get penalized.

Right now, the best thing you can do is be aware of how On Time Rate works. Be selective when accepting orders if you know a restaurant is usually slow. Submit disputes when you can, even if it feels limited. Most importantly, do not beat yourself up when your On Time Rate drops because of things you cannot control.

I truly hope DoorDash reevaluates this system in the future. Dashers deserve a rating that reflects effort and reliability, not just a rigid target time that ignores real-world problems. Until then, all we can do is stay informed and protect our accounts as best as we can.

FAQ: On Time Rate Dropping Due to Restaurant Delays

1. Why does my On Time Rate keep dropping even when the delay is not my fault?
Because On Time Rate is based on the original delivery time shown when you accept the order. It does not adjust for restaurant delays, traffic, or app issues. Even if you report a long wait at the store, the system still compares your delivery time to the original estimate.

2. Does reporting a long wait at the restaurant protect my On Time Rate?
No. Reporting a long wait can protect you from a contract violation for being late, but it does not protect your On Time Rate. The order can still be marked late and affect your rating.

3. Why am I unable to dispute some late deliveries in the app?
The app only allows a limited number of disputes, even if the late deliveries are legitimate. Once you reach that limit, you’ll see an error saying the dispute is ineligible and that you need to complete more deliveries.

4. Can Dasher Support or a supervisor fix my On Time Rate?
Unfortunately, no. Support will tell you to submit disputes through the app, but they cannot manually adjust or fix your On Time Rate. Even supervisors are unable to change it.

5. How does a low On Time Rate affect dashers?
A low On Time Rate can hurt your Dasher tier status. Some dashers lose Platinum status because of it, which means losing Dash Now access and having to rely on scheduling. This can directly affect your income, even if the delays were beyond your control.
