Let’s talk about something that we all hope never happens, but sometimes, it just does: your car suddenly stops, or you get a flat tire while you’re in the middle of a Doordash delivery.
I know, it’s stressful. You’re already on the road, food in the car, and your goal is to make a smooth delivery and move on to the next order. Then boom, car trouble.
It happened to me once during a dinner rush. I had just picked up an order, and on my way to the customer, I hit a pothole. The next thing I knew, my car started wobbling, and I had a flat tire. I was stuck on the side of the road with hot food in the back seat and no way to deliver it.
So What Should You Do?
Call Doordash Dasher Support
That’s the first and most important step.
As soon as you realize that your car is not going anywhere and there’s no way you can complete the delivery, open the Dasher app and contact support. Let them know what happened.
Just be honest. Tell them,
“Hi, I’m on a delivery, but I just got a flat tire and I won’t be able to complete this order.”
Or if it’s a mechanical problem, explain that your car broke down and it’s not safe or possible to continue the delivery.
What Will Support Do?
From my experience, support was very understanding. When this happened to me, the rep calmly listened, marked it as an emergency, and canceled the order on my behalf.
They also contacted the customer directly to explain what happened and offer a resolution, either a refund or possibly a redelivery.
Once everything was settled, the support rep even asked if I was okay and if I needed help. That human touch really made a difference in that moment.
What About the Food?
Good question.
Once the order is cancelled, I asked the support rep what to do with the food, and they told me it was okay to safely dispose of it. That’s their official policy for cancelled orders due to emergencies.
It felt awkward, especially knowing the customer wouldn’t get their food, but at that point, safety was the priority and the situation was out of my control.

Final Thoughts
Look, no one wants their car to break down during a delivery. It’s frustrating, stressful, and throws your whole dash off. But the reality is, it can happen. And when it does, just remember:
✅ Call Dasher Support immediately
✅ Explain the situation honestly
✅ Let support handle the cancellation and customer communication
✅ Dispose of the food as instructed
✅ Take care of yourself and your car
At the end of the day, we’re human. Things happen. What matters is how you handle it. And as long as you communicate with support, you’ll be okay. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Just focus on getting your car fixed and back on the road safely.
Stay safe out there and keep hustling smart!
